Interactive Art Map Guide: Using Location Records and GPS Coordinates

Let viewers explore your art geographically, boost engagement and offer easy location access via Google Maps.

Artwork Archive's Interactive Map allows you to display your art collection globally. Viewers can explore artworks from various locations, including public art installations, for a more immersive experience.

Note: This feature is only available for Organization Account Types.

Getting Started

  1. Ensure your Public Profile is set up.

  2. Choose how to set locations for your artworks:

    1. Use Location Record addresses for multiple pieces in the same location.

    2. Set exact GPS coordinates for individual pieces.

Method 1: Using Location Records

  1. Navigate to your Locations page.

  2. Create or edit Location Records as needed.

  3. Assign artworks to these Location Records.

Method 2: Adding Specific GPS Coordinates to Your Pieces

When creating a new piece:

  1. Navigate to your main Pieces page.

  2. Click +New Piece.

  3. Scroll to Location section on the bottom right.

    1. Add to an existing Location Record or create a new Location Record.

  4. Enter latitude and longitude in the provided fields.

For existing pieces:

  1. Navigate to the piece you want to edit.

  2. Go to Current Location and click Assign to Location or Loan Out

  3. Enter coordinates in the Latitude and Longitude fields.

Note: GPS coordinates override location addresses for mapping purposes.


Enabling the Interactive Map

  1. Navigate to My Profile in the left-hand menu.

  2. Select the Public Settings tab at the top.

  3. Scroll to the Public Location Settings and at least check both:

    • Show the pieces current location

    • Show a Map on your Profile with the piece locations

  4. Settings will save automatically.


Viewing and Exploring Your Map

  1. Go to My Profile on the left-hand menu.

  2. Click View Public Profile at the top right of the screen.

    1. Note: Ensure your profile is set to public (can be password-protected).

  3. On the map, you'll see:

    1. Dots representing artwork locations

    2. Numbers indicating how many works are at each location

  4. Click on dots to explore:

    1. For multiple works, keep clicking to drill down

    2. Blue location arrows indicate specific artworks

  5. Click on a blue dot to view the artwork card with:

    1. Image, artist name, year, dimensions, current location

    2. Google Maps link for directions (if GPS coordinates are added)

This interactive feature allows viewers to explore your collection geographically, enhancing their engagement with your artworks and providing easy access to locations via Google Maps.
