Every medium you type on a Piece record is saved as a suggestion for the next artwork you add. Over time, that list can fill up with near-duplicates like "Ink on paper" and "Ink and paper," or with built-in suggestions you don't use anymore.
The Mediums page lets you clean it all up in one place, so the medium on your labels, Reports, and Public Profile stays consistent.
How to Find the Mediums Page in Your Artwork Archive Account
What You'll See on the Mediums Page
The Mediums page lists the mediums on your pieces, plus Artwork Archive's built-in suggestions. Each row shows:
Medium: the medium as it's written on your pieces
Pieces: how many of your pieces use it
Suggestion List: whether the medium is Shown or Hidden in the suggestions on your piece forms
Use the All, Shown and Hidden toggles to filter the list, or type in Search mediums to find one by name. The Sort menu orders the list by Name (a-z), Name (z-a), Most pieces or Fewest pieces.
Did you know?
Sorting by Fewest pieces brings one-off spellings and typos to the top of your list, so you can find and fix them quickly.
How to Rename a Medium on All of Your Artwork
Rename updates the medium on every piece that uses it, including any pieces where it's written with different capitalization. It's the fastest way to fix a spelling or update your wording everywhere at once.
On the Mediums page, find the medium you want to change
Click Rename on the right side of that row. The Rename Medium window shows how many pieces will change
In the New Medium field, enter the new name
Click Rename
Did you know?
Rename only appears on mediums that at least one of your pieces uses. Built-in suggestions that none of your pieces use can be hidden, but not renamed.
Rename a Medium to Match One You Already Use
If you've written the same medium two different ways, such as "Acrylic" and "Acrylic paint," rename the one you no longer want so it matches the one you're keeping. The pieces that used both are then combined under that one name.
Click Rename on the medium you no longer want to use
In the New Medium field, type or choose the medium you want to keep
Click Rename
Important Note
This is a permanent action and cannot be undone.
How to Hide a Medium from Your Suggestions
Hiding a medium takes it out of the suggestions you see on piece forms when you add or edit artwork. It doesn't change any pieces, so artwork that already uses that medium keeps it.
Hide or Show One Medium
Find the medium on the Mediums page
Click Hide From List on the right side of that row. Its Suggestion List status changes to Hidden
To bring it back, click Show In List
Hide or Show Several Mediums at Once
Check the box next to each medium you want to update
Next to Selected:, click Hide from suggestions or Show in suggestions
To see only the mediums you've hidden, click the Hidden toggle at the top of the list.
How to Change the Medium on Only Some of Your Artwork
Rename changes every piece that uses a medium. To change the medium on just some of your pieces, use Bulk Edit instead.
Go to your Pieces page
Click Bulk Actions from the top menu
Click Bulk Edit
Filter your pieces by the medium you want to change
Select the pieces you want to update and click Move to transfer them to the Selected Pieces section
Click the blue Next button at the bottom of the screen
Choose Update Medium from the Update Individual Fields section
Enter the new medium for these pieces
Click the blue Confirm Changes button to save your updates
Common Questions About Managing Mediums
Does hiding a medium change my artwork?
No. Hiding only removes the medium from the suggestions on your piece forms. Pieces that already use it keep it.
Can I still use a medium I've hidden?
Yes. A hidden medium won't appear in the suggestions that show up as you start typing in the Medium field, but you can still type it in yourself.
Can I delete a medium?
To take a medium off your list, hide it, or rename it to match a medium you already use.
